Chicago has a bustling restaurant scene that makes it a heaven for foodies. While there are thousands of places you can eat your way through the city, the classic Chicago foods are on the cheap. Here are the top five foods “The Windy City” is known for.

    Chicago style deep dish pizza

    Chicago Deep Dish Pizza
Where to eat: Pizzaria Uno/ Pizzaria Due, Lou Malnati’s, Giordano’s

Chicago is known for deep dish pizza that’s like a thick slice of pie. It has cheese baked on the inside with tomato sauce on top. If you dine at a restaurant, it takes about an hour to cook. If there is only one food you have time to eat, I recommend the Chicago deep dish. #nom #nom

    Chicago Style hot dog
Where to eat: Wiener Circle, Superdawg, Portillo’s

A Chicago Style Hot Dog is a steamed all beef Hot Dog topped with yellow mustard, bright green relish, onions, tomato wedges, pickle spear or slice, sport peppers and a dash of celery salt served in a steamed poppy seed bun. The ingredients are placed in such a way that you can taste ‘em in every bite. When you order, make sure you’re specific that you want a Chicago dog. If you everything on it, ask for “the works” or “everything.” Don’t order ketchup on a Chicago style hot dog!

    Italian Beef
Where to eat: Al’s Italian Beef, Portillo’s

Both of these places serve the best Italian beef in the city. I’ve found Al’s to be more on the seasoned side. Order your beef dipped if you like your sandwich soggy. If you want to spicy things up, add hot peppers too. I think it taste better that way.

    Maxwell Street Polish Sausage
Where to eat: Jim’s Original, Express Grill

These joints are right next to each other near the corner of Southwest Corner of Union and James Rochford Streets. I’ve frequented these places after a late night of clubbing. The prices are super cheap for a Polish, fries, and can of soda. Get hot peppers on the side if you like an extra kick. You’ve been warned!

    Garrett’s Popcorn

This popcorn is a Chicago tradition. My grandfather has brought me here as a kid and till this day I always try to go back every time I’m in town. The cheese and caramel popcorn gets your hands messy and is full of flavor. It’s addicting!

If you’re from Chicago or have visited, what’s some of your favorite food you tried?
